International Investment Position

The International Investment Position (IIP) is a financial statement setting out the value and composition of a country's stock of external financial assets and liabilities as at a particular date. A positive net IIP indicates a nation is a creditor nation and conversely a negative net IIP indicates a debtor nation. The IIP statistics, which are currently compiled in accordance with the IMF’s Balance of Payments Manual (Fifth Edition), are released annually no later than nine months after the end of the reference period.
