150th Anniversary of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce & Industry Gold Coins

A limited edition of a gold commemorative coin of Rs1000 denomination in proof condition was issued in January 2000 to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

The design on the obverse of the coin depicts the Coat of Arms of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the inscriptions "MAURITIUS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY, 150th Anniversary , 25th January 2000"

The design on the reverse of the coin depicts a view of Port-Louis harbour, the Chien de Plomb, the Arms Square, and the Government House together with the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Mauritius with the surrounding inscription "MAURITIUS-ONE THOUSAND RUPEES" .

The coin is in a transparent acrylic protection capsule contained in a red case . with the Coat of Arms of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry . A Certificate of Authenticity issued by Monnaie De Paris giving the specifications of the coin is enclosed in the presentation case.

The coin is circular in shape with a diameter of 31mm and weighs 17.00 grams. The price of the gold coin is calculated on a daily basis and posted on the website .

Dodo Gold coins of 22 carats are in four denominations, namely, one ounce with a face value of Rs1,000, half an ounce with a face value of Rs500, quarter of an ounce with a face value of Rs250 and one-tenth of an ounce with a face value of Rs100. The coins are legal tender in Mauritius for the value stated thereon.

As with all gold bullion coins the buying and selling price of the coins will be related to the international market price for gold and not the face value. The face value simply indicates that the coins are legal tender.

The obverse is common to all four denominations and features centrally the portrait of the former Prime Minister with the surrounding inscription "THE Rt HON SIR ANEROOD JUGNAUTH PC QC KCMG" and the word "MAURITIUS" below.

The reverse designs feature the Dodo based on the famous painting by Roelandt Savery, with the inscription ".1988. THE DODO." and the denomination in the upper half , whilst the inscription denoting the gold content appears in the lower half.

A limited edition of a gold commemorative coin of Rs1000 denomination in proof condition has been issued on 16 September 2008 to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Independence of Mauritius.

The design on the obverse of the coin depicts the front facades of the Government House with the inscription '40th Anniversary of Independence' underneath and the surrounding inscription 'ONE THOUSAND RUPEES' and '1968 * MAURITIUS * 2008'.

The design on the reverse of the coin bears an effigy of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam with the inscription ' DR THE RIGHT HONOURABLE SIR SEEWOOSAGUR RAMGOOLAM '

The coin is in a transparent acrylic protection capsule contained in a red case with the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Mauritius on top. A Certificate of Authenticity issued by Monnaie De Paris giving the specifications of the coin is enclosed in the presentation case.
