Welcoming Remarks by the Governor on the occasion of the Visit of Her Excellency The President of the Republic of Mauritius

Your Excellency

Ladies and Gentlemen

Good Morning

Way back in 1967, the Bank of Mauritius had the privilege of receiving the Governor of Mauritius, Sir John Shaw Rennie, at the launching ceremony of the Bank as a central banking institution of the country.

40 years later, roughly a week after the inauguration of this building in December 2006, the then President of the Republic, Sir Anerood Jugnauth and Lady Jugnauth, paid us a courtesy visit.

Today, almost 9 years later, we are having the visit of the President of the Republic, Her Excellency Ameenah Gurib-Fakim. This time there is no launching ceremony, no inauguration of any new building. It’s an extraordinary visit in the ordinary course of our central banking life.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Bank and on my own behalf, I am immensely pleased to welcome Her Excellency, Madam Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, President of our Republic, to the Bank. About ten days ago, I paid a courtesy visit to the State House. We exchanged views about the current state of affairs in our financial industry. She listened with keen interest on developments in the industry. It’s a double privilege for me to have such a charming Madam President as my boss.

Excellency, I am pleased to invite you for a brief address to the senior staff of the Bank.

Your Excellency, please.
