Public Notice: Issue of Commemorative Coins

  1. The Bank of Mauritius (Bank) is pleased to announce that it had launched in September 2022 two commemorative coins to mark the 55th Anniversary of the Bank. The coins are as follows:
    1.  Rs2500 denomination Gold coin
    2.  Rs2000 denomination Gold coin
  2. The design on the obverse of the Rs2500 Commemorative Gold coin depicts the image of the Dodo bird in the middle with the surrounding inscriptions “55TH ANNIVERSARY” “BANK OF MAURITIUS” “2022” “Rs2500”.
  3. The design on the obverse of the Rs2000 Commemorative Gold coin depicts the New Headquarters Building of the Bank of Mauritius with the inscriptions “55TH ANNIVERSARY” in the middle and with the surrounding inscription “BANK OF MAURITIUS – TWO THOUSAND RUPEES – 2022”.
  4. The design on the reverse of both Commemorative Coins features a new portrait of the late former Prime Minister, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, GCSK, KCMG, QC, PC with the following surrounding inscription: “THE Rt HON SIR ANEROOD JUGNAUTH GCSK, KCMG, QC, PC” followed by “MAURITIUS”.
  5. The coins have been minted by The Royal Mint, United Kingdom.
  6. The coins will be legal tender in accordance with Section 37(1) of the Bank of Mauritius Act 2004 for the face value stated thereon.
  7. The commemorative coins in proof condition will be available for sale at the Bank of Mauritius as from 21 November 2022.
