Issue of Commemorative Coins

  1. The Bank of Mauritius announces the issue as from Friday 3rd November 2017 of three commemorative coins to mark the 50th Anniversary of the Bank:
    1. Rs1000 denomination Gold coin
    2. Rs200 denomination Silver coin
    3. Rs1500 denomination Gold coin
  2. The design on the obverse of the commemorative Rs1000 denomination Gold coin will depict the front façade of the New Headquarters Building of the Bank of Mauritius with the inscriptions “50TH ANNIVERSARY” in the middle and with the surrounding inscription “BANK OF MAURITIUS – ONE THOUSAND RUPEES”.
  3. The design on the obverse of the commemorative Rs200 denomination Silver coin will depict the front façade of the Old Building of the Bank of Mauritius with the inscriptions “50TH ANNIVERSARY” in the middle and with the surrounding inscription “BANK OF MAURITIUS – TWO HUNDRED RUPEES”.
  4. The design on the obverse of a special edition commemorative Rs1500 denomination Gold coin will depict the front façade of the New Headquarters Building of the Bank of Mauritius with the inscriptions “50TH ANNIVERSARY” in the middle and with the surrounding inscription “BANK OF MAURITIUS – ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED RUPEES”.
  5. The design on the reverse of the three commemorative coins will depict a Dodo bird surrounded by “BANK OF MAURITIUS 1967 – 2017”.
  6. The coins have been minted by The Royal Mint, United Kingdom.
  7. The coins will be legal tender in accordance with Section 37(1) of the Bank of Mauritius Act 2004 for the face value stated thereon.
  8. The commemorative coins in proof condition will be available for sale at the Bank of Mauritius as from Monday 6th November 2017.
