Eulogy for Sir Indurduth Ramphul, former Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, by Yandraduth Googoolye, Governor, Bank of Mauritius, prior to a moment of silent contemplation with the staff of the Bank.

Dear Colleagues,

As you may be aware, we have learnt with great sorrow the demise of Sir Indurduth Ramphul, former Governor of the Bank of Mauritius.

Sir Indur, as he was known to all, has been the longest –serving Governor of the central bank. His tenure of office spanned almost 14 years, from June 1982 to March 1996.

I have had the privilege of joining the Bank under his governorship and working closely with him. Sir Indur was an inspirational leader from whom I have learnt much.

To all those who have known him, Sir Indur Ramphul will remain the icon of a perfect gentleman and a great central banker. His sense of rigour was proverbial. So was his kindness, especially towards his staff.

Indeed, Sir Indur has worked much in favour of employees of the Bank, always striving to improve work conditions and benefits, many of which still prevail.

He will be remembered as a man of great vision, who always focused on contributing to the economic development of the country. With his demise, Mauritius has lost a great patriot!

I have conveyed to the bereaved family and to the Second Deputy Governor our sincere condolences.

In memory of Sir Indur Ramphul, I invite you all to keep one minute of silence. May His Soul Rest in Peace!
