Communique: Upgraded banknotes with new Security Features for Rs200, Rs500 and Rs1000 denominations

The Bank of Mauritius announces the issue of upgraded banknotes of Rs200, Rs500 and Rs1000 denominations with new security features as follows:

Multi ImageTM Hologram upgrade for Rs200 and Rs500 banknotes

This upgrade consists of a new feature which appears as a Multi ImageTM design of a dodo and the face value as a new feature on the Rs200 banknote, whereas the previous silver foil on the Rs500 banknote has been replaced by a Multi ImageTM design of a deer and the value of Rs500.

Depth ImageTM Hologram upgrade for Rs1000 banknote

This feature replaces the current silver foil on the Rs1000 banknote and is an optically variable device. Classical holography allows a perception of depth by placing an image over a secondary plane apparently deep. On the hologram there is a registered central image of the Bank of Mauritius Tower and in the background the Multi ImageTM feature showing the design of a key and the value of Rs1000.

The upgraded banknotes with new security features will be issued as from 14 October 2011 and will be legal tender concurrently with the existing family of banknotes.
