Bank Note Refund for Mutilated or Incomplete Banknote

In terms of Section 39 of the Bank of Mauritius Act 2004, the Bank shall consider exchange and/or refund of mutilated/incomplete banknote from members of the public during banking hours, as advertised from time to time, under the following conditions:

1. The currency must be genuine, i.e neither counterfeit nor tampered with

2. It can be one or several pieces of the same note

3. It must bear at least one complete serial number for data recording

4. The note should contain at least one full signature.

Value shall be given to any torn, burnt and termite infested banknotes subject to the following conditions:

1. Full value shall be awarded to any piece of banknote which is more than 67% in size of the original banknote

2. Half value shall be awarded to any piece of banknote which is more than 40% but less than 67% in size of the original banknote

3. No value shall be awarded to any piece of banknote which is less than 40% in size of the original banknote

Claim for exchange and/refund of mutilated/incomplete banknote for an amount exceeding Rs 10,000-should be accompanied by a Police Statement and the National Identity Card of the applicant.
