for Personality of the Year Award 2016

The African Leadership Magazine, a publication of the African Leadership (UK) Limited, is a leading pan-African flagship leadership-focused publication read by over 580,000 targeted international investors, business executives, government policy makers and multilateral agencies across Africa, the Middle East and Asia, Europe and the US.   Its yearly nominations are in recognition of outstanding contributions towards placing Africa on the global map.  The selection of the nominees for the accolade is based on “… a survey conducted via our online and offline platforms, which is then forwarded to the selection committee and the editorial board for final consideration, selection and approval.”

In a correspondence addressed to the Bank of Mauritius (Bank) on 25 January 2017, the CEO of the Magazine has underlined that the nomination of Governor Rameswurlall Basant Roi, G.C.S.K., “… is in keeping with our tradition of presenting the sides of the continent, which hardly finds placement on the global stage, and celebrating exemplary leadership and individuals who have contributed in shaping the global perception of the African continent…. This group of Africans are the game-changers, who are doing things differently towards re-positioning the African continent.

The correspondence states that the nomination of Governor Rameswurlall Basant Roi, G.C.S.K., is a celebration of his contributions “… towards placing Africa on the global map and changing the narrative over the years” and towards the “... advancement of the Finance Sector, setting a remarkable standard for Africa at large.”

Recent recipients of the African Leadership Award include, H.E. Hifikepunye Pohamba, former President of Namibia, H.E. Jakaya Kikwete, former President of Tanzania; H.E. Dr Ernest Bai Koroma, President of Sierra Leone; H.E. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia; H.E. John Kufour, former President of Ghana; and, Dr Mo Ibrahim, Founder Ibrahim Prize for Leadership.

For Governor Rameswurlall Basant Roi, G.C.S.K., who has recently received an accolade from The Banker as 2017 Central Bank Governor of the Year for Africa, “this nomination is yet another recognition of the bold reforms and strategies adopted by the Bank in the best interests of our jurisdiction.”
