Restriction on the use of the word ‘bank’

Members of the public are hereby informed that there is a restriction on the use of the word ‘bank’ under the Banking Act (‘Act’).

Unless specifically provided for in the Act, only a bank duly licensed by the Bank of Mauritius (‘Bank’) may make use of the word ‘bank’ or any of its derivatives in any language in the description or title under which the bank is carrying on business in Mauritius, amongst others.

Members of the public are informed that the unauthorised use of the word ‘bank’ or any of its derivatives is an offence under the Act.
