In the wake of the recent publication of an unfounded article in a newspaper, purporting that the Bank of Mauritius (Bank) was considering the issue of a new family of banknotes, there have been speculations regarding a banknote replacement exercise to be carried out imminently.
The Bank wishes to underline that it is not envisaging to do so in the short term.
The propagation of such misleading information is adversely impacting the financial market. The Bank invites all its direct and indirect stakeholders and the public in general to act responsibly so as not to fuel rumours that may be detrimental to the stability of the Mauritian currency.
