Investor Alert - MasterCard Award 2015

24 March 2015, Bank of Mauritius

The Bank of Mauritius (the “Bank”) and the Financial Services Commission Mauritius (the “FSC Mauritius”) would like to alert members of the public of a phishing email entitled “MasterCard Awards 2015” from Mrs. Mercy Hunt (“Mrs Hunt”), presumably a Secretary working at the office of MasterCard which is currently in circulation.

In this e-mail, Mrs Hunt states that the beneficiary is one amongst the 60 individuals who have presumably won $1,000,000.00 USD. The beneficiaries are requested to contact a certain Mrs. Grace Campbell (Mrs. “Campbell”) to claim their prize and to provide their personal details to process their MasterCard Certificate.

The beneficiaries have also been warned in that same phishing e-mail to exercise appropriate caution against imposters (Scammers). This catchphrase is used in order to appear genuine and also to gain the interest and confidence of the recipient of the phishing email.

We also wish to draw the attention of the members of the public that the names of Mr. Blaine Vandergate, Mrs. Mercy Hunt and Mrs. Grace Campbell often appear in phishing e-mails as presumably being the Director, Secretary and Administrator of MasterCard ®/ Microsoft® Mega Jackpot.

The Bank and the FSC Mauritius urge members of the public to exercise appropriate caution in respect of such emails and to avoid providing details of their bank accounts, credit card numbers, etc. so as to avoid the risk of being scammed.

Do not hesitate to call on us to report any potential scam or financial fraud.
