It is brought to the attention of members of the public that it is becoming increasingly popular for entities outside Mauritius to make use of web-based platforms for foreign exchange trading. These entities advertise their products and services over the internet through social networks and invite the public to trade on their platforms.
Members of the public are informed that such entities do not require the approval of the Bank of Mauritius to carry out operations from outside Mauritius.
Members of the public are advised to ensure that entities operating web-based foreign exchange trading platforms are duly registered/licensed by the relevant authorities. They are further advised to assess the counterparty risks before using such platforms for their trading activities and seek independent professional advice before engaging into such transactions.
Members of the public who opt to do business with individuals or entities which are not licensed by the Bank or the Financial Services Commission are cautioned that they do so at their own risk.
