Communiqué: Recent Developments in Global Financial Markets

20 September 2008, Bank of Mauritius

The crisis in the global financial markets has intensified more recently. Mauritius being an open economy, there is need for close monitoring and continuous vigilance to anticipate events and respond promptly.

The Bank is keeping a watchful eye on the ongoing developments.  A special cell comprising officers cutting across different functional divisions of the Bank is following the developments in the various segments of the domestic financial system as well as in the global markets.

The banking system in Mauritius is sound. The Bank does not foresee any adverse impact of the ongoing events on the banking system in the country. However, continued vigilance will be maintained.
