BOMStats, the Bank of Mauritius’ (Bank) statistical data platform, was officially launched this Thursday 3 September 2026 by Dr the Honourable Navinchandra Ramgoolam, GCSK, FRCP, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, Minister of Defence, Home Affairs and External Communications, Minister of Finance, Minister for Rodrigues and Outer Islands.
BOMStats places user-friendliness at the centre of the Bank’s efforts to expand access to official statistical data. Designed to make data easier to find, understand and use, the platform provides streamlined access to the Bank’s official statistics, self-service analytics, robust API functionality as well as structured and interoperable data sharing.
With the launch of its new statistical data platform, the Bank becomes the first central bank in Africa to deploy the Open Data Platform (ODP) 2.0 technology, which enables SDMx format dissemination. BOMStats, which has been operationalised by a cross-departmental internal team at the Bank with support from the African Development Bank and the Statistics Department of the International Monetary Fund, sets a new benchmark for efficient statistical data sharing on the continent.
In her address during the launch event, Governor Dr Priscilla Muthoora Thakoor underlined that “the launch of BOMStats marks an important milestone in our efforts to promote greater transparency, strengthen statistical governance, and embrace digitalisation. BOMStats embodies our belief that reliable, timely, and accessible data supports better decisions across society.”
In his speech, the Honourable Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam stated:
“This new data portal marks a significant milestone. Indeed, our country is entering a new era of data production, dissemination and transparency […] Good economic policy begins with good statistics, which allow us to measure economic realities accurately.
When data is compiled according to internationally recognized standards, it allows:
Public institutions to speak with clarity;
Markets to form expectations with confidence; and
Citizens to assess progress on the basis of facts rather than perceptions.”
