The African Business Leadership Awards 2021: Governor Harvesh Kumar Seegolam, winner of “Central Bank Governor of the Year” award

Governor Harvesh Kumar Seegolam has been awarded the “Central Bank Governor of the Year” by the highly respected African Leadership Magazine. This award is the outcome of the tremendous hard work and laudable contributions of the Bank of Mauritius to the Mauritian economy during the pandemic.

The “Central Bank Governor of the Year” award recognises “those who have led their countries’ economies through what has been another tumultuous year and have been able to stimulate growth and stabilize their macro-economic environment, thereby boosting investor confidence”.

“It is my great honour to accept this prestigious award which comes in a period of such unprecedented crisis. It is an international recognition of all the efforts put in by the Bank of Mauritius to preserve the soundness of our financial sector, to protect the banking sector and to help towards economic stabilisation, while addressing challenges at international level”, commented Governor Seegolam after the announcement of the African Business Leadership Awards 2021.

Since Governor Seegolam took office on 1st March 2020, the Bank of Mauritius has rolled out a series of both conventional and unconventional measures1 to support Mauritian households and economic operators in order to alleviate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
