COMMEMORATIVE COINS

Sections 29(1) and 31(1) of the Bank of Mauritius Act

150th Anniversary of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce & Industry

 

The Bank of Mauritius announces the issue as from 25 January 2000 of a gold commemorative coin of Rs1000 denomination and a silver commemorative coin of Rs10 denomination to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

The design on the obverse of both commemorative coins depicts the Coat of Arms of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce & Industry with the inscriptions "MAURITIUS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY, 150th Anniversary, 25th January 2000".

The design on the reverse of both commemorative coins depicts a view of Port Louis harbour, the Chien de Plomb, the Arms Square, and the Government House together with the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Mauritius and the inscriptions "MAURITIUS ONE THOUSAND RUPEES" on the gold coins and "MAURITIUS TEN RUPEES" on the silver coins.

The coins have been minted by Monnaie de Paris, France and will be legal tender in Mauritius for the respective face values stated thereon.

A limited quantity of the gold and silver coins in proof conditions will be available for sale in Mauritius as from 26 January 2000 by filling in the appropriate forms obtainable at the Bank.

The sale price of the gold and silver coins in presentation cases will be Rs6,750.- and Rs650.-, respectively.
