Rs200 Silver Coin to Commemorate the 40th Anniversary of BoM

A limited edition of a silver proof commemorative coin of Rs200 was issued in December 2007 to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Bank of Mauritius.

The design on the obverse of the coin depicts the front facades of the Old Building and the New Headquarters Building of the Bank in juxtaposition with the inscription "40TH ANNIVERSARY" in the middle and with the surrounding inscription "MAURITIUS-TWO HUNDRED RUPEES" .

The design on the reverse depicts a Dodo bird surrounded by "BANK OF MAURITIUS * 1967- 2007"

Each coin is in a transparent acrylic protection capsule contained in a dark blue presentation case with a picture of the Dodo bird on the top with the inscription "40TH Anniversary". A Certificate of Authenticity issued by Monnaie De Paris giving the specifications of the coin is enclosed in the presentation case.

The coin is circular in shape with a diameter of 35mm and weighs 29.00 grams.

A limited quantity of silver commemorative coins of Rs100 denomination in proof condition was issued in November 2001 to mark the centenary of the arrival of Mahatma Gandhi in Mauritius.

The design on the obverse of this commemorative coin depicts the Coat of Arms of Mauritius with the inscription "MAURITIUS ONE HUNDRED RUPEES" and the date 30 OCTOBER 2001 inscribed just below the Coat of Arms.

The design on the reverse of the commemorative coin depicts the effigy of Mahatma Gandhi with the inscription "MAHATMA GANDHI CENTENARY OF ARRIVAL IN MAURITIUS".

Each coin is in a transparent acrylic protection capsule contained in a dark blue case with a picture of the Dodo bird on the top with the inscription "Bank of Mauritius". The coin has been minted by Monnaie de Paris, France.

The coin is circular in shape with a diameter of 44mm and weighs 36.76 grams.

The design on the obverse of the coin depicts the Coat of Arms of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the inscriptions "MAURITIUS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY, 150th Anniversary , 25th January 2000"

The design on the reverse of the coin depicts a view of Port-Louis harbour, the Chien de Plomb, the Arms Square, and the Government House together with the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Mauritius with the surrounding inscription "MAURITIUS-TEN RUPEES"

The design on the reverse of this commemorative coin depicts the birth of Prince Charles with a gold plated cameo with the inscription "PRINCE CHARLES 1948" in the middle and with the surrounding inscription "1947 ELIZABETH AND PHILIP 1997 - 20 RUPEES" .

Tenth Anniversary of the Independence of Mauritius

A limited quantity silver commemorative coin of Rs25 denomination was issued in November 1978 to mark the 10th anniversary of the independence of Mauritius.

The design on the obverse of this commemorative coin depicts the effigy of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam with the inscriptions "DR THE RIGHT HONOURABLE SIR SEEWOOSAGUR RAMGOOLAM KT" and "MAURITIUS" .

This is the first Mauritius coin not to bear the head of a British King or Queen for 100 years.

The design on the reverse of the commemorative coin shows the Legislative Assembly Building in Port-Louis with the inscriptions "Tenth Anniversary of Independence" and "Twenty Five Rupees"

The coin has been struck by Royal Mint, London.
